Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 89 in India's first innings total of 296 runs in the ICC WTC 2021-23 final.

The wife of Ajinkya Rahane, Radhika Dhopavkar has revealed that the batter refused to go for scans despite getting hurt on his finger in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia being played at the Oval in London.

Ajinkya Rahane, who struck a spectacular 89 in his 18-month comeback Test, hoped that the finger injury he suffered on Thursday will not impair his batting in the World Test Championship final against Australia.

Rahane was struck on his right hand's index finger off a Pat Cummins bouncer on the second day of the match. He immediately felt pain and called on the physio for treatment.

"He (Rahane) got a bad blow on his finger. It does not look too bad, it is being assessed. He did not go out in the field as it would have been risky and he had already fractured the same finger previously. He will definitely bat,” Shardul Thakur had said during the post-day presser.

Ajinkya Rahane faced 129 balls and struck 11 fours and a six during his stay in the middle. His 109-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Shardul Thakur (51 off 109) kept India in the game but Australia still managed to take a massive 173-run first-inning lead.

I'm forever proud of your unwavering team spirit: Radhika Dhopavkar reveals Ajinkya Rahane refused to go for scan despite finger injury

Ajinkya Rahane was happy with the way he batted despite missing out on a century by 11 runs. However, he did pass the 5,000-run mark in Test cricket becoming the 13th Indian to do so.

"Happy with the way I batted. Had a good today. We were looking to get 320-330 but overall we had a good day. Bowling wise we bowled well. Everyone chipped in,” Rahane said after the third day.

He had to play majorly with an injured finger and he gritted it out in the middle to help India post a competitive total.

His wife, Radhika revealed that despite urging from team management, Rahane refused to go for a scan on his finger after getting hit and continued to bat after receiving some treatment. She also said that he inspired everyone including her with his team spirit.

“Despite your swollen finger, you refused a scan to protect your mindset and focused on batting, displaying incredible selflessness and determination. With unwavering resilience and commitment, you took your place at the crease, inspiring us all. I'm forever proud of your unwavering team spirit, my resilient partner. Love you endlessly!”- Radhika posted on Instagram.
