Ajinkya Rahane feels India missed an opportunity to win the game at the Lord’s.
Veteran Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane shared his take on the team’s defeat to England in third test of the five-match series at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He also urged the Indian captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir to add another pacer to the playing XI for the fourth test.
The five-match series between England and India has arguably been one of the best in recent times. Both teams have played a brilliant brand of cricket, with all three games going into the last days, which speaks volumes about the intensity in the series.
England are slightly ahead in the series after they beat India by 22 runs in the hard-fought game at the Lord’s. Coming to the third test, both teams had won one game each, and the game lived up to the expectations.
With the series on the line, the fourth game now becomes extremely important for India. To keep the series alive, it will be a must-win game. But, for England, a win would help them win the series and solidify their position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table.
I feel going forward, India should look to add one extra bowler – Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane talked about the Lord’s loss, highlighting how batting becomes difficult on day four and day five. He pointed out how the Shubman Gill-led side missed an opportunity in the match before urging team management to add an extra pacer to the team. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:
“We all know that Day 4 and 5 get slightly difficult to bat on. It’s not easy to score runs. Yes, England bowled really well. But I felt India missed an opportunity to get that big score on the board in the first innings. And also, I feel going forward, India should look to add one extra bowler – because you’re going to win a Test match or a Test series by getting 20 wickets.”
Ajinkya Rahane also hailed England skipper Ben Stokes for his intensity in the game. He added:
“It’s very easy for the fielder to get relaxed,” Rahane noted. “When you see only two or three balls left before lunch, you can easily get relaxed. But his attitude towards the ball, his intensity, and getting that run-out – that’s where I felt England came into the game. That’s what you want to see in Test cricket – all 11 fielders coming together and looking to win the Test match.”
