Ajit Agarkar accumulated 349 wickets for India while representing the country in 26 tests, 191 ODIs and 4 T20Is.

Since February 2023, the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) has been actively looking for a new chief of selectors for the men's cricket team. This search began after Chetan Sharma, a former member of the selection panel, resigned due to a controversy related to a sting operation earlier this year. However, it seems that the search is about to come to an end as Ajit Agarkar, a former Indian fast bowler, is close to being appointed to the prestigious position in the selection committee.

According to a report by PTI, the BCCI is expected to eliminate the zonal process and appoint Ajit Agarkar as a member of the selection committee. If chosen, Agarkar would be the second representative from the West Zone, alongside Salil Ankola.

"The CAC has the mandate to pick a selector who can stand up to the high profile team management in case there are differences," a BCCI official told PTI.

The deadline for submitting applications for the chief selector's position is June 30, with interviews scheduled to take place on July 1. Following Chetan Sharma's resignation, Shiv Sunder Das, a panel member, was temporarily promoted to the top position.

Ajit Agarkar served as assistant coach for Delhi Capitals

Having transitioned into a commentator role after his playing career, Agarkar has been previously linked to the chief selector position. However, it seems that this time he is likely to secure the role. Notably, Agarkar also served as an assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals during the last two seasons of the IPL.
