Jasprit Bumrah has been included in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2025.
India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that the management wants Jasprit Bumrah to play in all big tournaments and they have not set a fixed plan for his workload management. On Tuesday (August 19), Agarkar announced the India squad for Asia Cup 2025 and Bumrah was picked as one of the pacers.
Jasprit Bumrah has returned to the T20I squad after more than a year. He last played a T20I for India during the ICC T20 World Cup last year. Recently, Bumrah was part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, where he played only three games out of five tests to manage his workload.
With two five-wicket hauls, the right-arm pacer picked 14 wickets in the series. Bumrah was also impressive in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, picking 18 wickets in 12 games for Mumbai Indians (MI).

When Agarkar was asked about Bumrah’s workload plan during the press conference, he said that there is no fixed plan and management wants him to be available for big tournaments.
“I don’t think there’s any written plan. It’s been a nice break after the England series. The physios and team management have been in touch. We want him available for all the big games,” he said.
“There are World Cups, the Champions Trophy, big series like England and Australia – you want him playing those. Because he has picked up injuries over the last two to three years, and because of how unique his skillset is, that approach won’t change. Based on how he’s feeling and how we require him, we hope he’s available more often than not,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bumrah will lead India’s pace attack in Asia Cup 2025. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are the other two pacers in India squad. Seam all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube will also provide support to the pace department.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Men in Blue in Asia Cup 2025. Shubman Gill has been named as the vice-captain for the tournament after making his return to the T20I squad after more than a year. Asia Cup 2025 will commence on September 9. India will play their opening game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 10.
