"Just do well for the country"- Akash Deep's sister reacts after Indian pacer dedicates 10-wicket haul in Edgbaston test to her

Akash Deep picked four wickets in first innings and six wickets in second innings of the Edgbaston test.

Indian pacer Akash Deep produced his best performance yet in the second test between England Cricket Team and India Cricket Team at Edgbaston. The right-arm pacer captured a ten-wicket haul in the match – a four-wicket haul in the first innings and a six-wicket haul in the second innings.

Notably, Akash had replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the playing XI and proved his worth in the Edgbaston test. India defeated England by 336 runs in the match to register their first-ever test victory at the venue.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill was the star of India’s victory in the encounter. He slammed a double century in the first innings and a century in the second innings. His knock helped India set a gigantic target of 608 runs for the hosts. With Akash’s six-wicket haul, India bowled them out for just 271 runs on the day 5.

Akash Deep’s sister reacts to her brother’s message

After the match, Akash dedicated his 10-wicket haul to his elder sister. He revealed that his sister has been fighting cancer for the last two months.

“My older sister is suffering from cancer for the last two months. Now she is stable. She will be very happiest after all that she has gone through mentally and I dedicate this match to her. I want to see a smile on her face,” he said on Jio Hotstar.

Now, his sister Akhand Singh Jyoti has reacted to his message. During an interview with Aaj Tak, she said that she just wants him to do well for the country. She also revealed that her family celebrates together whenever Akash gets a wicket.

“It is a matter of pride for India – he has taken 10 wickets. Before the England tour, we went to meet him at the airport. I told him, ‘I’m absolutely fine, don’t worry about me, just do well for the country.’ I am in the third stage (of cancer), and the doctor has said the treatment will go on for six more months, after which we’ll see,” she said.

“It makes me very happy when Akash takes wickets. Whenever he gets a wicket, all of us start clapping and cheering so loudly that the neighbours in the colony ask what has happened!” she added.

“I had no idea Akash would say something like that. Maybe we weren’t ready to talk about it publicly, but the way he became emotional and said it for me- dedicating it to me – it’s a big deal. It shows how much he loves our family and me. Given the situation at home, and still performing like that and taking wickets there, it’s a huge thing. I’m the one he is closest to,” she was quoted as saying by India Today.

Meanwhile, the five-match test series between England and India for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 is tied 1-1 after the Edgbaston test. Earlier, England won the first test by five wickets. The third test will commence on July 10 at the Lord’s, London.
