Bengal pacer Akash Deep made his India test debut against England in the fourth test match in Ranchi.
It was a heartbreak moment for India’s debutant pacer Akash Deep, who castled England opener Zak Crawley for his maiden test wicket, before his celebration was cut short during the day 1’s play of the fourth test match between India and England at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, on February 23rd, Friday.
Akash Deep, the 27-year-old pacer from Bengal, finally received his much-awaited India test cap and made his debut for India in the ongoing fourth test against England at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi. The emotional moment unfolded just before the toss, with head coach Rahul Dravid presenting Deep with his cap.
Deep came in as replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for workload management purposes. The right-arm pacer Akash Deep has been impressive in domestic cricket, claiming 104 wickets in 30 First-Class matches with an average of 23.58.
Akash Deep’s debut wicket celebration cut short
Bowling his second over of the day, Akash pitched a delivery on a good length and got it to seam back into the right-handed Crawley. The delivery snuck between his bat and pad and crashed onto the top of his off-stump.
Soon after the dismissal, Crawley began to walk back to the dressing room, but the on-field umpire stopped Crawley for the third umpire to complete the front-foot check. However, the replay showed that debutant pacer Akash Deep overstepped and the third umpire called it no ball, giving a chance to England opener Zak Crawley.
Akash Deep breathing fire on his debut test for India
The debutant pacer Akash Deep has been breathing fire in the ongoing fourth test match between India and England in Ranchi. After being given no ball and denied Zak Crawley’s wicket, the pacer has taken three big wickets till now. After giving a chance to Zak Crawley early in his innings, the debutant Indian pacer came back in style, getting Ben Duckett as his first test wicket and trapping Ollie Pope LBW.
Akash Deep also castled Zak Crawley, who departed after smashing 42 runs in the first innings. Currently, England are in deep trouble in the game. At lunch, England are 112/5 after losing Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow and captain Ben Stokes.
