Alex Hales announces retirement from international cricket with immediate effect
Alex Hales represented England in 11 tests, 70 ODIs and 75 T20Is in his 12 year long career.
England opening batsman Alex Hales has announced his retirement from International cricket with immediate effect. Hales announced his decision at the age of 34 years. Hales will be signing off from his English career and will be focusing on his T20 league career around various parts of the World. Hales was in talks with England and Wales Cricket Board about his availability in the bilateral series as well as in the T20 leagues he is part of. Alex Hales was part of the England’s T20 World Cup winning campaign in 2022 in Australia.
Absolute privilege to have represented England: Alex Hales
Alex Hales, while announcing his retirement from international cricket said, “It has been an absolute privilege to have represented my country on 156 occasions across all three formats. I have made some memories and some friendships to last a lifetime and I feel that now is the right time to move on. Throughout my time in an England shirt, I have experienced some of the highest highs as well as some of the lowest lows. It’s been an incredible journey and I feel very content that my last game for England was winning the World Cup”.
Alex Hales’ decision was inevitable as he was preferring T20 leagues and contracts over international games for England in recent years. England will be taking on New Zealand in 4 T20Is and 4 ODIs starting on 30th August. Hales is looking to take part in CPL during that time and he is in talks with CPL franchises for the contract. Hales is currently taking part in the Hundred tournament for Trent Rockets.
Right-hand opening batter, Alex Hales made his international debut in 2011 against India at Old Trafford. This was also the last LOI game for Rahul Dravid. Hales has played 11 tests, 70 ODIs, and 75 T20Is for England since then. Hales has great stats in the limited-overs format proving himself a magnificent white ball player. Hales scored 2419 runs in ODIs, while he aggregated 2074 runs in the shortest format for England. Hales was one of the key members in England’s limited overs setup along with Jason Roy when they switched gears in these two formats after 2015 World Cup debacle.
