Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra retires from all formats of cricket at the age of 42

In what has been the latest development, veteran Indian cricketer Amit Mishra has called time on his career. The leg-spinner made the decision public on Thursday (4th September), ending his long career spanning over 25 years.
Amit Mishra has been a stalwart for India and played 22 tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is – picking 76, 64 and 16 scalps respectively. He was a genuine match-winner for India, playing a crucial role in the team winning the famous games across all three formats of the game.
Amit Mishra released an official statement about his retirement, saying that the 25 years were very memorable. He also thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Haryana cricket association for their support. He said:
“These 25 years of my life in cricket have been nothing short of memorable. I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, the administration, Haryana cricket association, the support staff, my colleagues, and my family members who were with me all this time.”
“I would like to thank the fans whose love and support, whenever and wherever I played, made the journey memorable. Cricket has given me countless memories and invaluable learnings, and each moment on the ground has been a memory I’ll treasure for life.“
Amit Mishra career

Mishra made his debut for India in 2003 in the ODI tri-series in Bangladesh. Then after a long wait, he made his test debut in 2008 against Australia in Mohali. He picked a five-wicket haul on debut.
The main highlight of his career was when he equalled Javagal Srinath’s world record for most wickets in a bilateral ODI series. The leg-spinner picked 18 wickets in the five-game series in Zimbabwe. He was also part of the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2014.
Mishra’s last game for India came in 2017, but he continued playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His final game in the league came for Lucknow Super Giants against Rajasthan Royals in 2024, where he picked figures of 1-20. He also holds the record of a bowler with three hat-tricks in the league.
