Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra has rated his test debut in 2008 as the most memorable moment of his career. The leg spinner announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on September 4 (Thursday).
During his international career from 2003 to 2017, Mishra played 22 tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India with his last international game coming in 2017. The 42-year-old made his international debut with an ODI against South Africa during a tri-series in Bangladesh in 2003.
However, he made his test debut after five years in 2008 against Australia. He was picked in the playing XI in the second test in Mohali after Anil Kumble was ruled out due to an injury. He did impress as he picked a fifer there.

Speaking to IANS, Mishra said that his test debut in Mohali was the most memorable moment of his career. He grabbed the limelight on his debut by picking seven wickets in the match, including a five-wicket haul in an innings.
“There are a lot of moments, but I would like to mention one special moment – my Test debut in Mohali. It was when Anil (Kumble) bhai was injured and was under a lot of pressure at that time, because entire media was saying if I could do what Anil bhai did for the Test side for so long,” he said.
“But it was a special moment when Anil bhai told me in the morning that I would be playing in the match, and encouraged me to play professionally and perform well. Then I took seven wickets on debut, including a five-wicket haul, and that will always be the most important and memorable moment of my career,” he added.
Notably, Mishra’s five-wicket haul on his test debut were also his best bowling figures in a test innings. The leg spinner only played 22 tests for India during his career. Overall, he picked 76 wickets in 40 innings at an average of 35.72.
