Amit Mishra played for India from 2003 to 2017.

Veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, September 4. The right-arm spinner had a long career from 2003 to 2017, but he couldn’t represent Indian Cricket Team in as many games he would’ve expected.

Mishra made his international debut in 2003, during an ODI tri-series against Bangladesh and South Africa . After a gap of five years, he made his test debut in 2008 against Australia and made an immediate impact, picking a fifer. During his international career, he played 22 tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India.

Although Mishra played only 22 tests for India, he was quite impressive by picking 76 wickets in 40 innings at an average of 35.72. In 36 ODIs, he clinched 64 wickets at an average of 23.60.

From 2003 to 2017, the 42-year-old was in and out of the national team and struggled to cement his spot. He was part of the India squad that won the title in ICC Champions Trophy 2013. His last international game was a T20I encounter against England in February 2017.

Although Mishra could not get opportunities in the national team after 2017, he continued to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With 162 games in his career, he became a well-known figure in the tournament.
