Andrew Flintoff secures mentor role with England Cricket Team for T20I series against West Indies
Andrew Flintoff will join England backroom staff for the upcoming five-match T20I series against WI.
Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff will join the English camp for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies. Andrew Flintoff, who is yet to fly to the Caribbean islands, will join the side as mentor. Flintoff is also in line to become the team’s mentor for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. English skipper Jos Buttler welcomed Flintoff’s entry and said it is great to have a legendary figure in the camp.
England captain Jos Buttler welcomed Andrew Flintoff in the English camp and said, “He’s been starting to do some stuff in cricket. It’s just great for him to be around, he’s an England legend and it’s just nice to have him around the group. He’s not been brought in with any specific role, just to be around and observe. A few of the lads can pick his brains a little bit and he’s settled in really well. It’s great to have him with us.”
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) awarded former all-rounder Andrew Flintoff mentorship role of the England Lions’ squad. Flintoff was at Loughborough along with off-spinner Graeme Swann. Both of them were working with the England Lions squad for their three-weeks trip to UAE. The Hundred franchise Northern Superchargers also appointed Flintoff as head coach recently. Flintoff is considered one of the finest all-rounders in the game.
Andrew Flintoff suffered big injuries in a car crash 12 months ago which left him with facial and rib injuries. Flintoff got the big news on his birthday as he turned 46 just two days ago on Wednesday. England are currently on a tour of West Indies consisting three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series with the ODI series being leveled currently at 1-1 with one match to go.
Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff played 79 Tests, 141 ODIs, and 7 T20I games for England in his 11-year-long career. Flintoff scored 8 centuries in his international career and he is always remembered for his magnificent performance in the Ashes 2005.
