Angelo Mathews retires: Check his numbers in test cricket

Angelo Mathews played 119 tests for Sri Lanka from 2009 to 2025.
Veteran Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews retired from test cricket on Saturday, June 21, after playing his last test match against Bangladesh. Last month, Mathews announced that he would pull down the curtains on his career in the longest format of the game after the first match of the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh test series.
However, Mathews will be available to play for the national team in the white-ball formats. The 38-year-old player was one of the best all-rounders to represent the Sri Lanka Cricket Team in tests, who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. He made his test debut in July 2009 in a match against Pakistan.
He represented Sri Lanka in 119 tests till his retirement in June 2025, and is the seventh Sri Lanka cricketer to play 100 or more tests for the national team. With 8214 runs, Mathews retired as Sri Lanka’s third-highest run scorer in tests after legends Kumar Sangakkara (12400) and Mahela Jayawardene (11814).
