Watch: Angelo Mathews throws his helmet in anger after being given "Timed out" in BAN vs SL CWC 2023 match

Angelo Mathews becomes the first player to given out "Time out" in international cricket during BAN vs SL CWC 2023 match.
The ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been a pretty exciting tournament so far. Teams have been doing pretty well, and fans are treated to some extra-ordinary individual performances. However, one incident that has surprised everyone took place on Monday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The game between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is underway, and both teams are fighting hard to win this match.
Over the years, these two teams have produced some thrilling moments, and something similar was caught on the field. Though it was not an individual brilliance, it was a rule that was implemented for the first time in international cricket when Angelo Mathews was given "timed out" in the first innings for taking too much time to come to the crease.

It happened in the 25th over of the first innings. Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Sadeera Samarawickrama on the second ball of the over. He got out after scoring 41 runs off 42 balls. His wicket brought Angelo Mathews to the crease. But while coming back to the field, Mathews took time and then was seen having an issue with his helmet while taking guard. He requested for another helmet from the team dugout.
But all this took too much, and Bangladeshi players, including skipper Shakib, appealed for "time out" as the batter took a long time. As per the rule, after a dismissal or in the case of a player getting retired hurt, the following batter should be on the crease within 2 minutes, which was not the case with Angelo Mathews. Hence, he was given out by the umpires.
The Sri Lankan team were furious with the decision as the batter requested Bangladesh withdraw the appeal. Later, while going back to the dugout, Mathews threw his helmet in anger. Notably, this was the first time in international cricket when the batter was given "time out," and it has now become the talking point among the fans on social media.
