Virat Kohli scored his 49th ODI century on his 35th birthday.

Virat Kohli has made his birthday special by equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries in ODIs. Kohli has been on a record-breaking spree against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Along with the century record, Virat Kohli completed 6,000 ODI runs in India to become only the second batter to do so. Virat has also overtaken Kumar Sangakkara to become the third-leading run-scorer in ODI World Cup.

Virat Kohli became the third Indian batter to score a century on his birthday. Virat Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma, also celebrated her husband’s big success in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Anushka Sharma posted an Instagram story immediately after Virat scored his 49th ODI ton and wrote, “Apne birthday pe khud ko present.” She was thrilled after Virat’s record-breaking innings at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Virat Kohli equals Sachin Tendulkar's record

Virat Kohli is now one century away from overtaking master blaster Sachin Tendulkar in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli will have an opportunity to go past Sachin Tendulkar in the ODI century table against Netherlands. This game will be played at his second home, Bengaluru. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will host India’s final league game against Netherlands on November 12. They have defeated Bangladesh and South Africa in their campaign for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Virat Kohli now has 79 international centuries and needs 22 more to go past Sachin Tendulkar record in international cricket. Virat Kohli has smashed 49 hundreds in ODIs, 29 in test cricket, and one in T20I cricket in his 15-years-long cricket career. Team India posted 326 runs against South Africa at Eden Gardens. Virat Kohli (101) and Shreyas Iyer (77) added 134 for the 3rd wicket partnership and took India out of crisis after the first powerplay.

This partnership was crucial for team India after Rohit Sharma’s (40 in 24 balls) blistering opening start along with Shubman Gill. India defeated South Africa by a huge margin of 243 runs, courtesy a 5-fer from Ravindra Jadeja.
