Virat Kohli was named Player of the Match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against Australia.

Virat Kohli has been India’s top run-scorer in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with 217 runs in four innings.

Kohli stepped up for the Men in Blue in two of the biggest matches of the tournament, scoring an unbeaten 100 against Pakistan and 84 in the semi-final against Australia.

The Dubai wicket has suited Kohli’s style of batting, which thrives on rotating the strike and taking his time during the early stage of the innings.

Virat’s composure at the crease has allowed India’s other batsmen, including Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya, to play their natural game and take more risks to boost the run rate.

With the final scheduled for March 9 in Dubai, let’s take a look at the records which Virat could achieve in this crucial clash.

Two records which Virat Kohli will aim to achieve in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final:

1. Become highest run-scorer in ICC Champions Trophy history (46 runs behind Chris Gayle)

Kohli currently has 746 runs in ICC Champions Trophy history, which is second only to Chris Gayle’s tally of 791 runs.

He needs 46 runs to surpass former West Indies opener and achieve the milestone. March 9 could be Virat’s last chance to reach this landmark, as he will be 40 years old by the time of the next ICC Champions Trophy edition, and might not play that long.

2. Become second-highest run-scorer in ODI cricket (54 runs behind Kumar Sangakkara)

Arguably the greatest ODI batsman in history, Virat Kohli has so far scored 14,180 runs in his ODI career. He currently ranks behind only Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234 runs) in the list of highest ODI run-scorers.

Kohli can surpass Sangakkara on March 9 if he scores 54 runs or more in the final. While Sachin’s tally is still out of reach, Virat will surely aim to pass Sangakkara and give India a solid foundation in the final.
