Ashton Agar to miss T20I series against India after ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 - Reports
Ashton Agar has played only one game for Australia in last 6 months.
Australia will be staying in India for a few weeks after finishing their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign. Australia will be playing a five-match T20I series against India starting from 23rd November in Visakhapatnam. This will be a short series before India head to South Africa for a full-fledged tour to play three T20Is, three ODIs and two tests. Australia have suffered a major setback before the series.
Australian all-rounder Ashton Agar is likely to miss the five-match T20I series against India due to the recurrence of his calf injury. Ashton Agar also missed out on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 due to a calf injury and Australia were forced to enter into the big event with just one spinner in the tournament. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa is Australia’s lone front-line spinner in their 15-member squad. Ashton Agar will require more time in his recovery.
Ashton Agar needs more time to recover
Ashton Agar injured himself while training in Western Australia camp before heading to South Africa for the T20I series in September. He tore his calf during the pre-season training but recovered to play the ODI series against South Africa. Agar then again complained about the discomfort during the first ODI and missed the entire series after that. Agar was subsequently ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and was replaced by Marnus Labuschagne.
Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) has officially released a statement regarding one of its key contracted players and said, “Given Agar is a nationally contracted player, WA Cricket will work closely with Cricket Australia to determine his return to play,” Ashton Agar has played only one game since March 2023. Agar has been continuously struggling with injuries this year. Australian team management was hoping for his quick recovery.
Ashton Agar’s next target will be to play for Perth Scorchers to defend their Big Bash League crown this year. BBL will begin on 7th December with Brisbane Heat taking on Melbourne Stars. Defending champions Perth Scorchers will be playing their opening game against Melbourne Renegades at Geelong on 10th December. Australia will be playing a five-match T20I series to end their tour to India. They also played a 3-match ODI series before the World Cup 2023.
