Bangladesh will play Sri Lanka on August 31 in their Asia Cup opener

Ebadot Hossain, a fast bowler for Bangladesh, has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 competition due to a knee injury sustained during the just-completed series against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh will begin the Asia Cup tournament on August 31 in Pallekele against Sri Lanka after being placed in Group B along with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. And on September 3, they will face off against Afghanistan in Lahore.

Ebadot sustained a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the recently finished series against Afghanistan, according to BCB’s chief sports Physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, and will be out of the Asia Cup 2023 competition.

“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury. We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup.

Considering the importance of the Bangladesh team’s next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas,” Dr. Chowdhury told Daily Star.

Since the ICC World Cup 2023 is only around the horizon, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided against playing him as the pacer needs at least six weeks to fully recover.

Bangladesh name Tanzim Hasan Shakib as replacement for Ebadot Hossain

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named uncapped pacer Tanzim Hasan Shakib as Ebadot Hossain’s replacement for the Asia Cup 2023 after Hossain was disqualified.

The Bangladeshi team competing in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2020 included Tanzim Hasan Sakib. He was also a member of the squad that competed in the most recent ACC Emerging Men’s Asia Cup. In just three games, he amassed 9 wickets, and his exhilarating performance won over many.

Updated Bangladesh squad for Asia Cup 2023: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Kumer Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Naim Sheikh, Shamim Hossain, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Tanzim Hasan Sakib
