India annihilated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final to win Asia Cup 2023.
In the high-stakes tournament like Asia Cup 2023, Indian Cricket Team showcased their mettle, securing victories in four out of five matches. And also the finals against the defending champions Sri Lanka. Their impressive performance not only earned them praise but also provided a significant morale boost ahead of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Asia Cup 2023 has been a great tournament for Indian team for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup. They tried their main playing XI and bench strength to get some games in the 50-overs format. From batting, bowling to fielding Indians showed their strengths in all three departments.
1. Rohit Sharma (8/10):
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the team led the team to title with his strategic captaincy and stellar batting, including three half centuries to his name. He played a pivotal role to India's success. He set the tone for the team upfront with batting, giving them good starts and showcased his remarkable leadership skills. He scored a total of 194 runs in 5 games.
2. Shubman Gill (9/10):
Shubman Gill's steady contributions at the top of the order provided a strong foundation. He along with skipper Rohit Sharma provided the team with good starts. His contributions at the top of the order provided a strong foundation. He played some crucial knocks for the team with two half centuries and one century to his name. He scored a total of 302 runs in 6 innings, ending up as the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
3. Virat Kohli (7.5/10):
Virat Kohli, the consistent maestro, played pivotal roles with the bat. While he didn't reach his usual heights but his knock against Pakistan of 122 will be remembered throughout. The former captain didn't fail to showcase his batting skills and giving India that promise of ticking the scoreboard in the middle. His total runs in the whole tournament were 129 in three innings.
4. KL Rahul (7/10):
KL Rahul, coming back from an injury was out of the team since IPL. But he returned with a bang scoring a century against arch-rivals Pakistan. He showcased his versatility with dynamic batting performances. His adaptability in various roles, including as a wicket-keeper, made him a crucial asset. His contribution to the team was 169 runs in the three innings he played.
5. Ishan Kishan (6.5/10):
Ishan Kishan, the explosive opener, who is known for providing explosive starts played crucial role for India in the middle-order in absence of KL Rahul. Ishan will be remembered for his knock against Pakistan in their tournament opener where he took out the team out of crisis. He together scored 143 runs in the whole tournament.
6. Shreyas Iyer (6/10):
Shreyas Iyer, the player who put an end to India's question for the No. 4 postion got only two games in the tournament, as he suffered back spasm. Iyer a valuable asset to the team was out of the Indian team due to an injury. He is part of India's team for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and will be a vital cog. He batted in only one innings of the two he played and scored only 14 runs.
7. Hardik Pandya (8.5/10):
Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder and vice-captain, displayed his abilities with both bat and ball. His explosive hitting and crucial breakthroughs with the ball proved instrumental in India's success. He was a key player to India lifting the trophy. He picked up six wickets and scored 92 runs.
8. Ravindra Jadeja (6/10):
Ravindra Jadeja, one of the best all-rounders in the world, couldn't showcase his abilities with bat but certainly did with the bowl. His economical spells and electrifying fielding continued to be game-changers for India. He also picked six wickets and 25 runs in the whole tournament.
9. Axar Patel (7/10):
Axar Patel, batted effectively and contributed with the bowl. However, he was out from the finals due to his injury and there are chances of him missing the upcoming mega event. He provided the batting strength in the lower-order. He scored 68 runs and picked one wicket.
10. Washington Sundar (5/10):
Washington Sundar, who came in as a replacement for Axar Patel got a game in the finals of Asia Cup 2023. But didn't get a chance to bowl or bat in the game. He is both lethal with the bat and bowl, and can contribute immensely.
11. Shardul Thakur (7/10):
Shardul Thakur, the breakthrough specialist, delivered crucial blows with the ball. His spells and aggressive approach made a significant impact throughout the tournament. He was also economical with 14 runs and 5 wickets to his name in the tournament.
12. Kuldeep Yadav (8/10):
Kuldeep Yadav, the wrist-spin whizard, added variety to the bowling attack. He is the only lead spinner India have picked, he gave the team crucial breakthroughs and have been brilliant in the tournament. His performance was crucial with nine wickets he gave the team necessary wickets whenever required.
13. Mohammed Shami (5/10):
Mohammed Shami, the experienced pacer, played two games in the tournament and is a vital player for the tournament. He has been providing the team with crucial breakthroughs throughout his career. He played only two games and picked three wickets for the team.
14. Mohammed Siraj (9/10):
Mohammed Siraj, the energetic paceman, showcased energetic bowling and the ability to pick crucial wickets. He added depth to India's fast-bowling attack. His spell of six wickets in the tournament finale showcased his importance in the bowling attack. Siraj was the main bowler for the team, he ended with 10 wickets to his name which is the highest by an Indian in the tournament.
15. Jasprit Bumrah (8.5/10):
Jasprit Bumrah, the yorker specialist, is a death-over specialist. His pinpoint yorkers and ability to defend low totals are instrumental in India's victories. He is also coming after an injury but he didn't let that effect his bowling abilities and struck wickets whenever required. He did what was required giving those overs to the team, but only managed to pick four wickets.
16. Suryakumar Yadav (4/10):
Suryakumar Yadav, getting only one game in the tournament, he played a knock of 26 . He is in the team as a back-up middle-order batsmen And he is a great striker of the bowl in the shorter format. Suryakumar Yadav played one game against Bangladesh and it was perfect opportunity to prove his talent but he failed and went back scoring only 26 runs.
17. Tilak Varma (3/10):
Tilak Varma, the emerging talent, played great knocks in recently concluded tour of West Indies tour, but couldn't provide the performance he was asked for. He scored only 5 runs in the single match he played.
18. Prasidh Krishna (5/10):
Prasidh Krishna, the fast-bowler also got one game, and picked up one wicket. He is also coming back after an injury and is known for fiery pace and the ability to pick key wickets.
