Asia Cup 2023: Points Table, Most Runs, Most Wickets After 1st Match, PAK vs NEP

Pakistan will play India in their next group round match of Asia Cup 2023 at Pallekele on 2nd September.

Pakistan have decimated Nepal in their maiden major-event game. Pakistan thrashed Nepal by 238 runs in the opening game of Asia Cup 2023 at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. Captain Babar Azam and Pakistan middle-order batter Iftikhar Ahmed smashed centuries to give Pakistan one of the biggest wins. Babar Azam scored 151 runs in 131 balls and smashed 14 fours and four sixes in his innings. He added a 214-runs stand with Iftikhar Ahmed (109) for the fifth wicket. Iftikhar Ahmed also seized the opportunity well enough and smashed his maiden ODI ton.

Nepal, in reply, were clueless in their batting performance and were bundled out for just 104 runs. Shadab Khan finished the tail with his four-wickets spell. Shaheen Afridi picked up two wickets in his first over to take control of the game. Sompal Kami (28) and Aarif Shaikh (26) added 59 runs for the 4th wicket, and this was Nepal’s highest stand in the game. Gulshan Jha was another double-digit scorer, and apart from them, the rest of the eight got out under the 10-runs mark.

After decimating Nepal in the opening game of the tournament, Pakistan have earned two points in group A. After thrashing Nepal, Pakistan’s net run rate shot up to 4.760 in the points table. Pakistan have secured themselves in the race for the super 4 round. Pakistan are part of group A in Asia Cup along with Nepal and India. Both of these teams will be taking on India in their next league game. Pakistan will take on India on September 2 at Pallekele Stadium, while Nepal will play against India on September 4 at the same venue.

Asia Cup 2023: Most Runs 

Pakistan captain Babar Azam is now the leading run-scorer in the tournament, as he has played a magnificent knock of 151 runs in the opening game. Babar has broken various records with his knock; he became the fastest to score 19 ODI centuries in the world and also broke Virat Kohli’s record of the highest score as a captain in Asia Cup. Another centurion in the game, Iftikhar Ahmed, is second on the list with 109 runs against Nepal. Mohammad Rizwan is 3rd with 44 runs, then come the two Nepali batters, Sompal Kami (28) in 4th and Aarif Shaikh (26) in 5th place.

Asia Cup 2023: Most Wickets 

Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan decimated the Nepali tail with his 4-wickets spell in the game. Shadab Khan conceded 27 runs in his 6.4 overs to rattle the Nepali batters. Shadab is now the leading wicket-taker in Asia Cup. Shadab has carried on from where he ended against Afghanistan in the final ODI. Haris Rauf, with 2 wickets and an economy rate of 3.20, is second in the list. Shaheen Afridi is 3rd in the table with 2 wickets and an economy rate of 5.40, and Naseem Shah is 4th in the table with one wicket. These tables will see several changes on Thursday when Sri Lanka take on Bangladesh.
