Asia Cup 2023: SL vs BAN, Super Four - Weather Forecast, 9th September, Colombo

Sri Lanka are scheduled to take on Bangladesh in the second match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four round.

After a break of two days in the Asia Cup 2023, the Super 4 round is set to resume on Saturday. Sri Lanka will be taking on Bangladesh at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka have had a wonderful time in their One-day international campaign and are just one win away from getting their 13th consecutive ODI win. With a win against Bangladesh Sri Lanka will become the second most successful team in ODI cricket in terms of most consecutive ODI wins. On the other hand, Bangladesh have played three games in Asia Cup 2023 and have only one win against Afghanistan. Colombo is expected to get heavy rain on Saturday and the possibility of a full match looks very grim.

Weather remains wet in Colombo for the next week as well. Sri Lanka is witnessing heavy rains due to the delayed monsoon season in the country. Along with the capital city of Colombo, Central Sri Lanka is getting heavy rains. According to, there is 93% chance of rain on Sunday to interrupt the proceedings in the second Super 4 round game. Humidity is likely to remain above 90% throughout the day with temperatures around 24-29’C.  Thunderstorms are expected throughout the day during the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh encounter in Colombo.

Rain causing interruption in Asia Cup

So far Sri Lanka has hosted three Asia Cup 2023 games and in those three games at Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, rain came in. India vs Pakistan was washed out in the second innings due to persistent showers after the first innings. Similarly, India vs Nepal also got curtailed in the second innings due to rain. The game was shortened to only 23 overs in India’s chase. The Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Group B league game was also interrupted briefly due to a flash shower but could not change the conditions much. The situation in Colombo is expected to be worse.

Bangladesh need to win this game to keep their hopes alive in the Asia Cup 2023. They have already faced a huge setback against Pakistan as they got beaten by 7 wickets in the game. Bangladesh have not been in top form in this tournament as their batting lineup struggled to score runs against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The rest of the Asia Cup 2023 will only be played in Colombo. ACC wanted to change the venue from Colombo to Sri Lanka but a few participating boards refused to travel to Hambantota and Colombo was retained once again.
