Babar Azam took 109 deliveries to complete his century.

On August 30, co-hosts Pakistan and Nepal are playing in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2023 at Multan. One of the four games that will take place in Pakistan is this one.

The remaining games, including those involving India, will take place in Sri Lanka, along with the championship game on September 17.

After a glitzy opening ceremony, Pakistan captain Babar Azam was selected to bat first after winning the toss. Additionally, this was Nepal’s maiden ODI versus Pakistan and debut in the Asia Cup.

The Men in Green got off to a respectable start when Fakhar Zaman scored 14 runs quickly before being dismissed by Karan KC. After Imam Ul Haq was run out, they lost him for 5 runs.

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam then got together for the rescue act and slowly built a very good partnership. They added 86 runs for the third wicket and then Rizwan needless lost his wicket due to his own folly.

Then Sandeep Lamichhane accounted for Salman Agha for just 5 runs leaving Pakistan 124/4 in 28 overs. The good thing for Pakistan was that captain Babar Azam was at the helm and anchoring one end.

Babar Azam hits his 19th ODI hundred and first against Nepal

Babar Azam continued his good run of form, having come after hitting two half-centuries in the Afghanistan ODI series, and kept the scoreboard ticking with Iftikhar Ahmed hitting big shots at the other end.

He not only battled some disciplined bowling from Nepal spinners but also the heat and humidity in Multan and was often seen with a wet towel on his head and face during the breaks.

Babar added more than 100 runs with Iftikhar Ahmed who completed a well-compiled half-century at more than a run-a-ball.

But the big moment for Babar Azam came, who had accelerated after reaching his fifty, in the 42nd over bowled by Dipendra Singh Airee. He chopped a ball outside the off-stump to the left of deep-backward point.

And completed two runs which brought him his 19th ODI century, making him the fastest to reach the milestone in 102 innings, beating the record of Hashim Amla, who had reached in 104 innings.

The Babar Azam fans on social media were ecstatic after their hero recorded another century to his growing list of achievements and lauded him on social media.
