First test of The Ashes 2025-26, AUS vs ENG, will be played at the Optus Stadium, Perth.

Optus Stadium in Perth is all set to witness the opening clash between Australian Cricket Team and England Cricket Team of The Ashes 2025-26, which will start on November 21 with day 1. While Australia have announced their playing XI for the clash, England have named 12 players and will reveal their final XI at the toss after analysing the pitch conditions.

Steve Smith will captain Australia in the opening game in the absence of Pat Cummins as the latter has not recovered yet from his back injury. Australia will also be short of Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott in the first encounter, with Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland leading the pace attack.

Uncapped pacer Brendan Doggett will join them, making his test debut in Perth. The hosts will also observe a new face opening the batting with Usman Khawaja as Jake Weatherald is set to make his debut in the clash.

Talking about England, they have a strong pace unit with the likes of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Brydon Carse, and Gus Atkinson. With experienced specialist batters like Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Harry Brook, they have a lethal batting unit. The focus will be on Root as he looks forward to his first test century in Australia.
