Australia won the toss and opted to bat in the third AUS vs ENG test of the Ashes 2025-26 at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

The third test of the Ashes 2025-26 commenced on Wednesday, December 17 at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. After losing the last two games, England Cricket Team made a solid start to the third test against the Australian Cricket Team.

Australia, bolstered by the return of captain Pat Cummins, coped a massive blow just ahead of the toss, which they won and batted first. Steve Smith was ruled out of the match due to vertigo issues and nausea. This made Usman Khawaja, who was left out of the initial XI, return to the side and take the number four slot.

England, with one bowling change, started off pretty well with Jofra Archer wreaking havoc with the new ball. His fiery spell left Australia tottering at 94 for four and it was then that Khawaja, whose career seemed to have ended when he was dropped from the XI, played a magical innings.

Khawaja slammed 82 runs off 126, which was overshadowed by Alex Carey’s ton. The keeper-batter hit 106 off 143 balls with eight boundaries and one six. The duo added 91 runs for the fifth wicket before Josh Inglis (32) played a vital hand to bring Australia back in the game.

In the end, Mitchell Starc (33*) continued his fine form with the bat that took Australia to 326 for eight at stumps on day one. For England, apart from Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse and Will Jacks picked two wickets each.
