England had an upper hand on the day one of the second AUS vs ENG second test at the Gabba in Brisbane.

It was an enthralling day of cricket at the Gabba in Brisbane as England and Australia came up with their best. The second test of the Ashes 2025-26, which is also a pink-ball test, commenced on Thursday, December 4.

England won the toss and opted to bat. However, it was a horrible start for them as Mitchell Starc removed both the openers. After that, the limelight was taken by Joe Root as he hit a magical century, his first in the tests in Australia.

Joe Root got the support of Zak Crawley, who hit 74, as the duo added 117 runs for the third wicket. Then, Harry Brook (31) also chipped in and after that, Australia removed wickets in a flash, leaving England struggling at 264 for nine.

Root, however, kept slamming runs and held the one end. While, Jofra Archer (32*) had fun in the middle, hitting bowlers all over the park. He and Root, who was unbeaten at 135, ended the day on a high for England with their 61-run stand.

At stumps on day one, England were 325 for nine. For Australia, Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers with her six-fer.
