Australia ended day three on a high with a lead of 44 runs against England in the ongoing second Ashes 2025-26 test at the Gabba in Brisbane on December 5, 2025. The second test of the Ashes 2025-26, which is also a pink-ball test, commenced on Thursday, December 4.
After a frustrating fifty-plus partnership for the 10th and final wicket between Joe Root and Jofra Archer, Australia finally managed to end the England first innings for 334. Joe Root remained not out on 138 runs in 206 balls with 15 fours and one six, while Archer made 38 in 36 balls with two fours and two sixes.
Travis Head gave a good start with 33 in 43 balls, while fellow opening partner Jake Weatherald made 72 in 78 balls with 12 fours and one six. Marnus Labuschagne (65) and Steve Smith (61) kept the England fielders busy, but Brydon Carse’s three wickets hurt Australia towards the end of the day.
He and Ben Stokes managed to take some important wickets, including Cameron Green for 45 and Josh Inglis for 23 runs, as Australia finished day three on 378/6 with just 44 runs in the lead.

The third day of the second AUS vs ENG test will begin at 9:30 AM IST, with the first session ending at 11:30. There will be a 20-minute tea break after that before the second session begins at 11:50 AM and lasts till 1:50 PM.
There will be a dinner break of 40 minutes after that, and the final session will take place from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. There is a 30-minute extra time from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM to cover the daily quota of overs.
