Australia hopeful of Cameron Green's participation in ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 final

Cameron Green underwent back surgery in October 2024.
Cricket Australia (CA), on Thursday, January 9, unveiled Australia‘s 16-member test squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Australia will tour the Island Nation for two test matches and one ODI.
All-rounder Cameron Green, who had back surgery in October 2024, has been left out of the squad as he continues his recovery.
Green missed the entire Australian cricketing summer, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, allowing players like Nathan McSweeney, Sam Konstas, and Beau Webster to make their test debuts.
In 2024, the Western Australian rediscovered himself after being promoted to No. 4 in the Australian lineup. This move allowed the Aussies to include both Green and Mitchell Marsh as all-rounders in the playing XI, with Steve Smith opening alongside Usman Khawaja.
Ahead of the tour of Sri Lanka, Australia’s chief selector George Bailey has now shared an update on the young all-rounder’s injury.
George Bailey on Cameron Green’s availability in the ICC World Test Championship final 2025
Speaking to reporters after Australia’s squad announcement for Sri Lanka’s tour, chief selector George Bailey expressed that he is “very hopeful” about Cameron Green’s availability for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final, as a batter.
Green posted a video of himself running on social media on Wednesday, almost three months after undergoing season-ending surgery on his back.
While there is hope for his batting availability in May, there is no information yet on when the 25-year-old will be cleared to bowl.
Bailey also expressed confidence in Mitchell Marsh, who missed out on a place in the squad. He highlighted that Marsh could play a key role in next year’s Ashes series.
He said, “I don’t necessarily see it as the end of the road for him. I think Mitch at his best and with a longer-term view of potentially what the Ashes may look like and what England may throw at us there.“
Australia will play South Africa in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, starting from June 11 at the Lord’s, London.
