Josh Hazlewood missed the Adelaide test due to a side strain.

Adding more fuel to the rumors of reported cracks among the Australian group, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has backed Mohammed Siraj’s aggression during his altercation with Travis Head in the recently-concluded Adelaide test.

The second BGT 2024-25 test in Adelaide saw Siraj and Head engage in a heated exchange on day 2 of the match.

After being whipped for a six by Head, Siraj castled the left-hander with a perfect yorker. He celebrated the wicket animatedly and then the duo had a verbal spat during which Siraj gestured towards the dressing room. Head turned around and gave a reaction too to the Indian seamer, who was then booed by the Adelaide crowd for the rest of the match.

While some have criticized Siraj for his aggression, he got support from Hazlewood, who spent a couple of IPL seasons with Siraj at RCB.

Speaking on Monday after his fitness test in Adelaide, Hazlewood spoke about Siraj’s passion and emotions on the field. He said it’s good to see the aggression from him.

“He’s great. I really enjoyed my time at the RCB with Siraj. He’s probably the leader of the attack there, to a degree. He’s another one who’s a bit like Virat, very passionate. He goes with the flow of the game, gets the crowd up, all that sort of stuff. Bowled some serious spells in the IPL in the last few years for sure, so he’s just a good character, I think, and it’s good to see sometimes,” Josh Hazlewood said.

Hazlewood’s comments may not be taken too kindly by his teammates amid an already reported rift in the dressing room.

Josh Hazlewood likely to play at the Gabba

Meanwhile, Hazlewood is likely to return to Australia’s XI for the third test after missing the second test due to a side strain.

The lanky seamer bowled two lengthy spells in his fitness test on Monday and a decision on his participation in the Brisbane test will be taken on Tuesday. In Hazlewood’s absence, Scott Boland got an opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands, picking up five wickets in the match for 105 runs.
