Australia will face South Africa in the 10th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Lucknow.

It hasn't been as good a start as the most successful team would have thought. The five-time champions Australia lost their opening game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Chennai against India and looked clueless in both departments. But now they will have an even bigger challenge in front of them. Australia will face the team that scored the highest World Cup total in their opening game.

Men in yellow will face South Africa, who are high on confidence and are looking to thrash every opponent on their journey to knock-outs. South Africa won the ODI series against Australia ahead of the World Cup. So it will be a big challenge for men in yellow. Here, we will talk about the predicted XI for Australia against South Africa.

AUS vs SA: Australia playing XI vs South Africa

1. Mitchell Marsh :

Mitchell Marsh had a horrible opening game. He scored a duck with the bat and later on went on to drop Virat Kohli's catch, which was one of the reasons that they lost. Marsh will be under the pump as Australia have some other opening options as well. So we might see a match-winning performance from the all-rounder, he can put pressure on South Africa right away with the bat.

2. David Warner :

David Warner has been in great form and has scored three half-centuries in the last four innings. He also looked good for his 41 runs in the game against India. The left-hander will look to perform well to give his team a good start so that they can win their first game. Warner can single-handedly take the game away and will be a big wicket for South Africa.

3. Steven Smith :

Steve Smith looked a bit rusty in the game against India but scored 46 on a turning track in Chennai. He will be looking to play an anchor role so that other players can play their natural games. Smith's role will become more important in Lucknow, too, when Australia need to win the game. He can be the man who takes Australia along on Thursday.

4. Marnus Labuschagne :

Marnus Labuschagne is another batter who can play a perfect anchor role in this Australian line-up, which makes him a big wicket in the middle-order. Labuschagne scored runs against South Africa in the ODI series and knows how to handle South African attack, which might end in his favor. South Africa will be aware of his threat and will like to get him out early.

5. Glenn Maxwell :

Glenn Maxwell will be a key for Australia, both with bat and ball. Because he is one player who doesn't care what is the pitch behaving like and can bat on any surface and produce an impactful performance. Maxwell will be very important in the middle-order, and his bowling will also be crucial on the slow pitch in Lucknow.

6. Alex Carey (wk) :

Alex Carey got a good ball from Ravindra Jadeja and got out for a duck. But he will have that in mind and will look to do well this time around. Josh Inglis is waiting and can replace Carey if he fails in the coming few games. That might bring the best out of Carey. The left-hander is capable of playing sweeps and reverse-sweeps against the spin, which might help him in Lucknow.

7. Marcus Stoinis :

Marcus Stoinis will be back after missing out in the first game against India due to injury. He will be back at his home ground in the IPL in Lucknow. Stoinis' return will give a boost to the team as he is aware of the pitch conditions here and is a suitable bowler to bowl. Then, his batting will also be balanced for the team.

8. Pat Cummins (c) :

Pat Cummins will have a big job on this shoulder because Australia cannot afford consecutive defeats in this tournament. The captain will be eager to get two important points on the board, and for that, he will do everything. Cummins has played enough in India and can use the conditions well here. His bowling upfront will be the key for his team.

9. Mitchell Starc :

Mitchell Starc looked good in the last game with both the bat and the ball. He made crucial 28 runs with the bat and then provided his team with the first break-through. South Africa will never write off Starc with the performances he had in the World Cup. Starc has the capability to dismantle South Africa's top-order and put pressure on them right away.

10. Adam Zampa :

Adam Zampa had an off day in the previous game against India. Despite the pitch helping the spinners, Zampa couldn't use many of those conditions. But he can be lethal in Lucknow with the same kind of temperament. Zampa is the lone specialist spinner in the team, and if he can take wickets in the middle-overs, and he can put Australia ahead.

11. Josh Hazlewood :

Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers for his team in the losing cause. He dismissed Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer in one over to put India on the back-foot. Hazlewood can make a similar impact in the coming game as well. He has been in great form, and his ability to pick wickets with the new ball makes him a difficult bowler to handle.
