Australia announce a 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
Australia announced a 15-member Squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is all set to take place in India. The tournament will start on October 5 with a game between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Top ten teams in the world have qualified for the mega event and will compete to become the champions. The five-time champions, Australia, are one of the contenders for the title.
They will start their journey on October 8 with a game against hosts India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Australia have a great chance in the tournament, as most of their players are well aware of the pitches and conditions in India because of the Indian Premier League. That will surely give them an edge in the tournament, where they are the most successful team in history.
Pat Cummins will lead the squad in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
On Wednesday, Cricket Australia (CA) picked the squad for the team of 15 stars that will be taking part in the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Pat Cummins will be leading the squad, while the board has included some injured stars like Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, and Mitchell Starc for the mega event.
Notably, the CA has a deadline of September 28 to submit their final squad to the ICC. Notably, the Australia captain is recovering from his hand fracture, while Smith has had a wrist injury. Starc has a groin injury, while Maxwell has an ankle injury, which is why all four stars are not part of the upcoming ODI series against South Africa.
Australian Chief Selector George Bailey expressed his concern over these players. He said, "All are well placed to come back online in the coming weeks and potentially for selection in the upcoming series against India. There are eight one-day matches still to play in South Africa and India before the final squad is due to be declared."
