Australia will be looking for a fourth consecutive T20 world title at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Australia women’s third-highest T20I wicket-taker, Jess Jonassen, has been omitted from the 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which has been moved to the UAE from Bangladesh.

Alyssa Healy will lead Australia for the first time in a T20 World Cup. Australia have won the last three women’s T20 World Cups. With mostly a similar squad as the last event, they are a strong contender to clinch the title this year as well.

Pacer Darcie Brown has recovered from a stress fracture and walked into the squad straight away.

Jonassen has been a key part of the Australian white-ball teams in the last decade. In T20Is, she’s picked up 96 wickets at an average of 19.62. However, she last played a T20I in October 2023 and was omitted from the tour of Bangladesh earlier this year.

Despite impressive performances in the Women’s Premier League in India and The Women’s Hundred in England this year, the left-arm spinner couldn’t force her way into the squad.

“Jess Jonassen is again unlucky to miss out, but we’ve been impressed with the way she’s bounced back, and we’ll continue to monitor her form ahead of the home summer,” Australia women’s national selector Shawn Flegler said.

The rest of the squad is on the expected lines.

Australia are grouped with India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Before the T20 World Cup, which will start on October 3, Australia will host New Zealand in a three-T20I series from September 19 to 24.

Australia squad for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024:

Alyssa Healy (C, wk), Darcie Brown, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Grace Harris, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham, Tayla Vlaeminck

Group A: Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

Group B: South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Scotland

The top two teams will proceed to the semi-finals.
