Australia have seven test matches left in the ICC WTC 2023-25 cycle.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed on Friday that they will be hosting the Australian team for two test matches and one ODI in January-February 2025.

Pat Cummins’s side are slated to land in Sri Lanka on January 20th, less than two weeks after the conclusion of their five-match home series against India. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series will kick off on November 22 in Perth and will end with the New Year’s test in Sydney.

Both AUS vs IND and SL vs AUS test series are part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. Both these series are crucial for all three teams as all of them are in contention to reach the ICC WTC final next year, which is scheduled to be played at Lord’s in June.

Both tests between Australia and Sri Lanka will be played in Galle, where Sri Lanka recently hammered New Zealand 2-0. The venue for the one-off ODI is not confirmed yet. The two-test series will start on January 29 and the one-off ODI will be played on February 13.

This sole ODI match will act as a preparatory game for Australia for the Champions Trophy 2025; Sri Lanka have failed to qualify.

Australia toured Sri Lanka last time for a test series in 2022, which ended 1-1.

Australia tour of Sri Lanka 2025: Schedule

1st test: Jan 29, Wed – Feb 02, Sun, Galle International Stadium, Galle

2nd test: Feb 06, Thu – Feb 10, Mon, Galle International Stadium, Galle

One-off ODI: Feb 13, Thu, Venue to be decided

Pat Cummins might miss one or both tests

Australia’s test and ODI skipper Pat Cummins might miss the tour partially or completely due to the birth of his second child.

“We respect that if that was to unfold for that particular time and if he wants to miss a Test. If he’s got bigger things to take care of than a Test match in Sri Lanka, then that’s fine with us,” head coach Andrew McDonald said.
