The Indian team will play three ODIs and five T20Is in Australia starting October 19.
Despite the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the Indian T20I team, Cricket Australia (CA) has reportedly confirmed that the tickets for the upcoming five-match series against Australia have been sold out. These tickets have sold out for the T20I to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday, October 31.
The sell-out is particularly impressive given that Kohli and Rohit, two of India’s most popular players, have retired from T20 internationals following India’s winning 2024 ICC T20 World Cup campaign and will not play in those matches.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team will feature in five T20Is in Australia after a three-ODI series that starts on October 19.
“Over 175,000 tickets sold in 13 days” – CA CEO Todd Greenberg

According to CA, ticket sales for the entire series have already surpassed 175,000, with less than 30,000 seats left for the eight planned matches.
Public allocations for the Sydney and Manuka Ovals have already been depleted, while the Adelaide ODI and Gabba T20I are approaching capacity, with less than 5,000 seats remaining each. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg stated that the enormous demand underlines the unparalleled appeal of the India-Australia rivalry.
The huge crowd anticipated for the Melbourne T20I is another strong indicator of the incredible interest in this series. We’re thrilled to see fans embracing the Australia v. India contest with such passion, and we look forward to delivering a world-class experience both on and off the field. To have over 175,000 tickets sold with 13 days until the first ODI in Perth is a phenomenal result. It speaks volumes about the strength of the rivalry and the enthusiasm of fans across the country,” Greenberg was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector Ajit Agarkar also announced that Shubman Gill will take over as India ODI captain from Rohit Sharma, starting with the Australia series. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return to India colors in the three ODIs against Australia. This will be the first time since India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win in March that the two legends of the game will feature in an ODI for India.
