Australian bowling attack completes a rare achievement in test cricket

Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood picked up eight wickets for Australia against West Indies in the first test in Adelaide.
After Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood’s four-wicket haul against West Indies in the first test at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, Australian bowling attack completed a rare achievement in test cricket. Josh Hazlewood became the latest entry in the elite list of bowlers to pick 250 wickets in test cricket. Hazlewood was just one wicket away from the milestone and Alick Athanaze became Josh Hazlewood’s 250th test victim.
Skipper Pat Cummins also overtook former Australian test great Jason Gillespie (259 wickets). Cummins also took a four-wicket haul against West Indies and became the ninth leading wicket-taker for Australia in test cricket. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood’s spell gave West Indian batters tough time and bundled them out on just 188 runs in the first innings.
Special record of Australian quartet
As Josh Hazlewood became the latest entry into the 250 test wickets club, Australian bowling quartet have become the only side in the world to take more than 250 test wickets. All of the members in Australian bowling line-up playing against West Indies in the Adelaide test have taken more than 250 wickets in their respective career and this happened for the first time in test cricket.
Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon (510) is currently the leading wicket-taker amongst active players. Left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Starc is second with 346 wickets in 86 matches. Then comes the skipper Pat Cummins with 262 wickets in 59 test matches. Josh Hazlewood is latest entry in this list, he has 253 wickets in 67 matches at the end of West Indies first innings in Adelaide.
After being bowled out on 188, West Indies have also got two early wickets in final session of the day. Debutant Shamar Joseph dismissed opener Steven Smith (12) and number 3 batter Marnus Labuschagne (10) early in his spell. Shamar Joseph also took West Indies close to 200 with his 36 runs knock at number 11. Shamar added 55 runs for the final wicket along with Kemar Roach.
