India's tour of South Africa 2024
Avesh Khan added to India squad for 2nd test against South Africa, whom has he replaced in the squad ? Find out
Right-arm fast bowler Avesh Khan was part of the India A squad for the South African tour.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the replacement for the injured Mohammed Shami. The 27-year-old Avesh Khan has been added to the Indian squad for the second test scheduled to be played at Newlands in Cape Town. India suffered a crushing defeat of innings and 32 runs against South Africa in the first test in Centurion.
Avesh Khan was part of the India A and picked up a 5-wicket haul against South Africa in a four-day match started on Boxing Day. Avesh Khan bowled a superb spell just 50 Kilometers away from Centurion in Benoni. His spell put India A side on top of the game and BCCI immediately drafted him into the senior squad for the second test in Johannesburg.
Mohammed Shami still not fit
Mohammed Shami suffered an ankle injury during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Shami has not yet recovered from his injury and was ruled out of the test series two weeks ago. Shami’s selection was based on his fitness and BCCI was also not sure if Shami would be fit for the two-match test series in South Africa. Shami had a terrific World Cup 2023.
The BCCI in an official release announced Shami’s replacement. BCCI release stated, “The Men’s Selection Committee has named Mr. Avesh Khan as a replacement for Mr Mohd. Shami for the second Test against South Africa to be played from 3rd-7th January 2024 in Cape Town.” Ravindra Jadeja was also not well for the first test and missed the action.
Team India had three tough days in Centurion as they suffered a heavy defeat due to poor batting application. Bowlers also had a poor game as South Africa managed to score 408 against the Indian attack. Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna couldn’t contribute much in the game and South African opener Dean Elgar went on to pile on the runs.
