Axar Patel quashes rumours of Instagram story after WC snub, calls it fake
Axar Patel got injured while playing against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023.
An Instagram story went viral in just a few minutes portraying Axar Patel taking a dig at the BCCI and Indian team management for discarding him from the Indian World Cup squad. Everyone was shocked to see the reaction in the story that claimed Axar’s unhappiness over picking Ravi Ashwin over him in the final hour changes heading into the World Cup 2023. After a little damage, Axar Patel came out in the open to call that story fake and fabricated.
Axar Patel has clarified via social media platform X and retweeted a tweet from his digital media manager that clarified, “Hello everyone! There's a fake screenshot doing the rounds today which is allegedly taken from akshar2026's Instagram page. He has NOT posted any such story on his social media account, so the question of deleting it doesn't arise. Please treat this as an official clarification, which I'm issuing on his behalf. Thank you.”
Axar Patel also retweeted that tweet to make it his official statement regarding all the controversy around his fake Instagram story that was made viral. Earlier a story screenshot went viral where it was written, “Should have taken science instead of commerce and hired a better PR.” to give a sense that Axar’s disappointed and the decision was taken without any consultation from spin all-rounder. Axar Patel was expected to recover before the warm-up games but he failed to meet the deadline.
Team India made a late change in their 15-member squad for the World Cup 2023 when they replaced injured Axar Patel with off-spinner Ravi Ashwin. Axar Patel suffered multiple niggles against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup Super 4 round. Just a few hours before the deadline, India had to force one change in their selected squad. Ravi Ashwin played against Australia in the recently concluded three-match ODI series.
