Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was not happy with Mohammad Nawaz following Pakistan's loss to South Africa.

Pakistan lost a close game against South Africa at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. South Africa defeated Pakistan by just one wicket after a nail-biting finish. This loss has also put Pakistan out of the race for the top four in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Pakistan had the game under their control when their pacers were bowling and picking up wickets. Pakistan needed only one wicket to stay alive in the World Cup, but unfortunately, Keshav Maharaj’s resilience was enough to win the game for South Africa.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam called in Mohammad Nawaz to bowl the 48th over when South Africa required only 5 runs in 3 overs. Nawaz delivered one outside the leg stump to allow Keshav Maharaj to get a boundary towards the fine leg and seal the game for his team. Soon after scoring the winning run, South African players went into celebratory mode, while Pakistani skipper Babar Azam was a bit disappointed.

Babar scolding Mohammad Nawaz

Cameras spotted Babar Azam scolding left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz. Babar was disappointed with Mohammad Nawaz, as he couldn’t prevent Tabraiz Shamsi from taking a single and Keshav Maharaj freed his arm to win the game for South Africa. Pakistan pace bowlers put a lot of pressure on South Africans and made them fight hard for the last few runs. Babar Azam could be lip-read, saying, “You don’t know anything else but just one kind of delivery."

Mohammad Nawaz conceded 40 runs in his spell of 6.2 overs and failed to pick up a wicket. Nawaz has been severely criticised for his poor show, despite South Africa being under pressure. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is also under fire for going with Mohammad Nawaz in the final crunch moment of the game. Mohammad Nawaz had a great outing with the bat and took Pakistan to a decent total of 270 runs with his 24 balls and 24 runs in the innings.

Shaheen Afridi (3/43), Haris Rauf (2/62) and Mohammad Waseem (2/50) made South Africa struggle after Aiden Markram's wicket. South Africa needed 21 runs when Markram went out after scoring 91 runs in 93 balls. Pakistan's pace attack kept attacking the same line against South African tail and made them struggle to score the last 21 runs. South Africa took 8 overs to score the final 21 runs to win the game and move to the top of the points table.
