Pakistan captain Babar Azam has also failed with the bat in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Pakistan Cricket Team have had an awful ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign so far. After winning the opening two games against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, Pakistan have lost three consecutive games in the tournament. Their losing streak started against India in Ahmedabad, then in Bangalore against Australia and their biggest setback came against Afghanistan in Chennai. This raised a few alarm bells in the Pakistan Cricket Board. 

Big statement from PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now released a statement regarding their team’s performance in the World Cup 2023 and hinted at a big change in their camp. Pakistan fans and former cricketers have raised concern over Babar Azam’s captaincy and suggested a leadership, PCB in a released statement has said, “Looking ahead, the board will make decisions in the best interest of Pakistan cricket based on the team's performances in the World Cup.” 

The PCB has also stated that the Pakistan captain Babar Azam and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq were given a free hand and freedom for the tournament. They have also urged the fans should keep supporting their team and rally behind their players and team as four crucial games are remaining in the tournament. There is a massive outrage against Pakistan captain Babar Azam after the poor show in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. 

Babar under fire!

Several former Pakistan players have asked Babar to step down from captaincy. Earlier, a few media suggested that Babar Azam will quit the leadership and PCB has started looking for a fresh face to captain men in Green. Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi are the few options PCB might look ahead to go with. Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi slammed Babar’s approach in the tournament and asked him to be more active while in the game.

Pakistan have played 5 games in the World Cup 2023 so far and they are left with 4 more games. Pakistan have only 4 points with 2 wins and 3 consecutive losses. They are currently placed 5th in the points table. Pakistan can still make it to the semi-final if they manage to win their remaining games in the tournament. Pakistan will be playing their next match against South Africa in Chennai on 27th October.
