Babar Azam is not part of Pakistan squad for Asia Cup 2025.
Surprisingly, Babar Azam has been snubbed from the Pakistan Cricket Team’s squad for Asia Cup 2025 next month. The right-handed batsman, who has played over 100 T20Is in his career so far, was overlooked by selectors due to his poor form in recent times.
Salman Ali Agha will lead Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025, where they are placed in Group A alongside India, UAE, and Oman. Notably, the Men in Green will face their arch-rivals India on September 14 at Dubai Cricket Stadium. Moreover, they are highly expected to clash with India once again in the Super Four stage of the tournament.
Notably, Azam was not part of the team during the recent T20I series against West Indies, which Pakistan won 2-1. The former Pakistan skipper featured in the three-match ODI series, where he gave a poor show by scoring just 56 runs across three games.
Azam’s snub from Asia Cup 2025 squad would also mean that he will not be in contention for the ICC T20 World Cup next year. Notably, Asia Cup 2025 will be played in the T20I format this year, and will help teams to prepare for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
When was the last time Babar Azam played a T20I match for Pakistan?

Shockingly, Azam has not played any T20I for Pakistan this year. His last T20I appearance came in December 2024, during the series against South Africa. During Pakistan’s tour of South Africa 2024-25, Azam was part of the first two T20Is and registered scores of 0 and 31.
The third match of the series was abandoned due to rain. The visitors lost the series 2-0. Notably, the 30-year-old has mustered 4223 runs in 128 T20Is so far at an average of 39.84, smacking three centuries and 36 half-centuries.
Pakistan have played four T20I series so far in 2025- a five-match series against New Zealand in March, two three-match series against Bangladesh, and the recent three-match series against West Indies. Ahead of Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan will play a T20I Tri-series against UAE and Afghanistan from August 29 to September 7.
