Virat Kohli heaped praise on Pakistan captain Babar Azam.
Pakistan cricket team’s captain, Babar Azam, is one of the finest cricketers of this era. The 28-year-old batter has been a consistent performer across formats for his national side. With an average above 40 in all three formats, Babar is often compared with probably the greatest batter of this generation, Virat Kohli. Former Indian captain also called the Pakistan captain probably the best batter in the world currently. The Pakistan cricketer has scored 30 international centuries in his 8-year-long career so far. Considering his age, he will go down in history among the top batters of all generations.
Virat Kohli in all praise of Babar Azam
Kohli, while speaking about India vs Pakistan rivalry on Star Sports, talked about his relationship with the Pakistani cricketers. Revealing his first interaction with Babar, the former Indian captain said, “The first interaction I had with him was during the 2019 World Cup after the game in Manchester. I have known Imad since the Under-19 World Cup, and he said Babar wanted to have a chat. We sat down and spoke about the game. I saw a lot of regard and respect for him from day one. And that hasn’t changed. Regardless of the fact that he’s probably the top batter in the world across formats, and rightly so.” said Kohli
One of the most successful batters in the world, Virat Kohli, was in full praise of Babar Azam. He added that Babar has remained a consistent player in almost every format he plays. Virat said, “He performs so consistently, and I have always enjoyed watching him play.” These comments from one of the top batters in the world will certainly be a boost of confidence for Babar Azam considering the upcoming big games against India in the Asia Cup and the World Cup 2023. India will take on Pakistan in four probable games in the next two big events.
Babar Azam has raced to touch his 5000 ODI runs milestone, overtaking Hashim Amla and Sir Viv Richards. Babar became the fastest to touch the milestone. He is currently ranked number one in ODIs, number four in Tests, and third in T20Is. He has scored 3772 runs in 49 Tests, 5089 runs in 100 ODIs, and 3485 runs in 104 T20Is. India will open their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Pakistan on September 2 at Pallekele Cricket Ground in Kandy. Later on, if both the teams qualify for the next round, they will meet in the super 4 round at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
