BAN vs PAK: Was Salman Agha wrongly given out against Bangladesh in 2nd ODI?

Salman Agha scored 64 off 62 in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh.

A massive controversy unfolded in the 2nd ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Salman Ali Agha, who was looking set for a big score, was given out on the non-striker’s end in the 39th over of the first innings.

This incident happened on the 4th ball of the 39th over. Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled to Mohammed Rizwan, who pushed the ball forward. Miraz stopped the ball with his boot and was very close to Salman Agha, who was already out of his crease.

Agha tried to pick up the ball to give it back to the bowler. However, Miraz was quick to pick the ball and hit the stumps at the bowler’s end. The decision went for the third umpire, and the reply showed that Agha was outside the crease. As a result, the batter was given a runout.

Was Salman Agha out or not in the second ODI in Dhaka?

It was a rather silly way to get out, as Salman Agha was looking very good at 64 off 62 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes. He added 109 runs with Mohammad Rizwan (44 off 59) for the fourth wicket and took Pakistan past the 200-run mark.

After getting out, he looked frustrated. He was even seen throwing his gloves and helmet while going back to the dugout. His dismissal has sparked a debate on “sportsmanship spirit”. But was Salman given out correctly?

Watch Salman’s dismissal here-

As per the law of cricket, whatever happened on that ball was totally legal. This was technically correct, but also controversial. One can argue that it was against the “sportsmanship spirit,” but as the law states, the batter was clearly out of the crease, and the bowler had the chance to run him out.

The ball was still in play, which was why he was given out. However, that wicket broke Pakistan’s momentum in the game. Salman got out at 231/4 in 38.4 overs, and Pakistan only managed 43 more runs after that and were bowled out for 274 runs in 47.3 overs.

It was yet another batting collapse for them, and another game in which they failed to bat the full quota of overs. Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Maaz Sadaqat had a flying start and scored 75 off 46 balls. This is a must-win contest for Pakistan. They have already lost the first game and need to win this match to level the series.
