Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby to lead as Bangladesh announce squad for U19 Cricket World Cup 2024

Bangladesh won the U19 World Cup in 2020 in South Africa.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chose a 15-man roster for the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024. All members of Bangladesh’s ACC U19 Asia Cup-winning squad have retained their places.
Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby will lead the team in the event, which will begin on January 19 in South Africa. Rabby previously guided Bangladesh to their first Asia Cup championship in December 2023, when they defeated UAE in the finals in Dubai.
Now, the under-19 team have a chance to regain the World Cup title which the Akbar Ali-led Bangladesh U-19 team had won for the first time in 2020 in the same country.
Bangladesh, India, Ireland, and United States are in group A of the event. The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals of this 16-team tournament. Young Bengal Tigers will begin their campaign against India on January 20 in Bloemfontein.
“We are hoping to regain the championship title,” says selector Hanna Sarkar
South Africa will host the U19 World Cup for the third time after ICC took away the hosting rights from Sri Lanka due to the turmoil in their board. ICC suspended Sri Lanka Cricket Board for government interference after the Sports Minister removed the entire board and appointed an ad hoc committee.
The original committee was re-installed after the court intervened and the sports minister was removed from his post by the president.
Meanwhile, U-19 team selector Hanna Sarkar told the media: “We are hoping to regain the championship title. We were the champions in 2020. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get our desired result in 2022. This time we are going there with hopes of regaining it.”
