Bangladesh announce 17-member squad for Asia Cup 2023; Tamim Iqbal ruled out

Shakib Al Hasan to lead Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023.
The 16th edition of the Asia Cup is set to begin at the end of August. This tournament will see the top six teams from the subcontinent lock horns with each other to become the Asia champions. Sri Lanka won the last edition and will enter the tournament as the defending champions. The tournament will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka and will start on August 30 with a game between Pakistan and Nepal.
It will be an ideal preparation for the Asian teams ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. A few days ago, Pakistan announced their squad for the upcoming tournament. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has also announced a 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. They have made some notable decisions with their squad. The big name to miss out on the squad is former captain Mahmudllah.
Bangladesh pick Tanzid Hasan for the Shakib Al Hasan-led squad for Asia Cup 2023
Bangladesh have picked a 22-year-old youngster Tanzid Hasan for the Asia Cup 2023. He has impressed the selectors after consistent performance at the domestic level. Veteran All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will be leading the team in the tournament after Tamim Iqbal stepped down from the captaincy role. Not just for the Asia Cup, Shakib will be captaining the side in the upcoming World Cup in India starting on October 5.
Apart from Tanzid, another youngster Shamim Hossain, makes the cut. Both of these players were part of the Bangladesh U19 team that won the U19 World Cup 2020. Shamim has already represented his country in 17 T20Is, but Tanzid gets his maiden call. The BCB Cheif, Najmul Hasan, called a sudden conference where he announced Shakib to be the next captain.
He said, “There was never any confusion. I told you before. He is the obvious choice. Who else can lead? But we had to talk to him before appointing him. Nobody should think anything else. Shakib is the captain. He was always the main choice.” Tamim is not part of the squad as he has suffered an injury recently and is in rehab.
