Uncapped batter Taj Nehar has been included in the Bangladesh squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have announced their 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be led by Nigar Sultana. Uncapped players Taj Nehar and Disha Biswas have been picked in the Bangladesh squad for the tournament that will be played in the UAE in October.

There are a total of five changes from the squad that featured in the women’s Asia Cup in July. Bangladesh have dropped experienced all-rounder Rumana Ahmed, along with Rubya Haider, Shorifa Khatun, Sabikun Nahar and Ishma Tanjim.

The axing of Rumana was put down to her dismal form by chief selector Sajjad Ahmed, who said, “We selected Rumana in the Asia Cup, where, unfortunately, she didn’t perform. She is a middle-order bat who isn’t batting the way that is needed in T20s.”

Sobhana Mostary, Shathi Rani, Fahima Khatunm Disha Biswas and Taj Nehar, who were not part of the Asia Cup, have been picked for the Women’s T20 World Cup.

The 32-year-old leg-spinner Fahima Khatun is one of the most experienced players in this squad. She has featured in five women’s T20 World Cups previously. Shathi Rani, an opening batter, has stormed back into the squad after finishing as the leading run-scorer in the National Cricket League (NCL) T20 competition.

Bangladesh are in Group B along with England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland. They will start their campaign against Scotland in Sharjah on October 3.
