Mushfiqur Rahim last played a test match for Bangladesh against South Africa in October 2024.

Bangladesh have announced their squad for first test of the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe. The Asian side has revealed a 15-member squad for the first test, which will be played in Sylhet. Wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim has returned to the test side.

The 37-year-old batsman last played a test match for Bangladesh against South Africa in October 2024. The right-handed batsman was not part of their last test series against West Indies in November 2024. Bangladesh will face Zimbabwe in two tests at home. The first game will commence in Sylhet on April 20. The second encounter will start on April 28 in Chattogram.

Notably, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has returned to lead the side against Zimbabwe after missing the last test series. Mehidy Hasan Miraz led the side in their last test series in his absence.

Pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who has played 10 ODIs and 22 T20Is so far, has earned maiden test call-up. Experienced batsman Mominul Haque is also part of the side. Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, and Zakir Hasan are some other batters in the squad. Below is Bangladesh’s squad for the first test against Zimbabwe.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan Ankon, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

In their last test series against West Indies, Bangladesh lost the opening game by 201 runs but later won the next encounter by 101 runs to draw the series. In ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, Bangladesh ended in seventh spot in the points table among nine teams.

They finished with four victories and eight defeats across 12 matches against six teams. Notably, the upcoming test series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe is not part of the ICC WTC.
