List of batsmen to score 200 and 100 in a test cricket match

Only nine batsmen have scored 200 and 100 in a match in test cricket.
Scoring a double century in test cricket is never an easy job. A batter has to be patient and bat for a long period of time. But scoring twin centuries in a test match is even harder, because a batter not only has to work hard and have patience, but also needs luck.
But scoring a double century and a century in the same match is very rare. That’s why there are only a few matches that have been recorded in the more than 140 years of test cricket history when a batter has achieved this rare feat.
There have been many batters who scored a double hundred but missed scoring a century in the other innings by only a few runs. On that note, let’s take a look at the instances when a batter scored 200 and a 100 in a test cricket match.
List of batsmen to score 200 and 100 in a test match
1. Doug Walters (242 & 103) vs WI, Sydney, 1969
The first ever cricketer to achieve the record of a double hundred and a hundred in a test match was Australia’s Doug Walters. He had scored 242 and 103 runs in two innings of the game and made history. Because of his hundred in the second innings, Australia won the game by 382 runs, which is one of the biggest wins for Australia against the West Indies.
2. Sunil Gavaskar (124 & 220) vs WI, Port of Spain, 1971
Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar’s stats are probably the best of his generation, and he started his career with a bang, announcing himself in his debut series against the West Indies. In his career’s fourth test, he slammed 124 and 220 at Port of Spain. His effort helped India draw against a strong West Indies side, and he was the first ever Indian batter to achieve this feat.
3. Lawrence Rowe (214 & 100*) vs NZ, Kingston, 1972
Former West Indies cricketer Lawrence Rowe was third batter and first from the West Indies to achieve this feat. Against New Zealand in Kingston in the 1972 home series, he slammed twin centuries. It included 214 in the first and 100 not out in the second innings. However, the game ended in a draw.
4. Greg Chappell (247* & 133) vs NZ, Wellington, 1974
The first Australian to score a double hundred and a hundred in the same test was Greg Chappell. He achieved the feat in an away test against New Zealand in Wellington. Chappell recorded his best test score of 247 not out and then made 133 in the second innings. This game ended in a draw, but it is one of the rarest games in history. Because Greg Chappell made history, and his brother Ian Chappell also scored twin centuries (145 and 121) in the game.
5. Graham Gooch (333 & 123) vs IND, Lord’s, 1990
Some records are nearly unbreakable, and one of those includes 456 runs in a single test by England’s Graham Gooch. He recorded this world record at the Lord’s Cricket Ground during the 1990 home series against India. Gooch registered England’s third-highest score of 333 in the first innings, which is also his highest test score, followed by another hundred (123) in the second innings to make history.
6. Brian Lara (221 & 130) vs SL, Colombo, 2001
Brian Lara and test batting records are synonymous with each other. He made some unbreakable records and also features in this list. In 2001 against Sri Lanka, he scored twin centuries, including a double hundred. He scored 221 and 130 in the game and scored more than 50 percent of the runs for his team. But he didn’t get the support of others, and his hundreds came in a losing cause.
7. Kumar Sangakkara (319 & 105) vs BAN, Chattogram, 2014
Kumar Sangakkara was probably the greatest test batter who played for Sri Lanka. He hit 11 double centuries in his career, which is second-most in test cricket, just behind Sir Don Bradman’s tally of 12 double hundreds. His career best of 319 runs came during an away game against Bangladesh in 2014. The Southpaw scored 319 off 482 balls, with eight sixes and 32 fours.
He then smashed 105 off 144 deliveries in the second innings with 11 fours and two sixes to help his side set a target of 467 runs for Bangladesh. However, with Bangladesh scoring 271/3 in the fourth innings, the game resulted in a draw. Sangakarra was adjudged Player of the Match for his performance in the game.
8. Marnus Labuschagne (204 and 104*) vs WI, Perth in 2022
From Australia, two batters have achieved this unique feat and the second one is Marnus Labuschagne. Against the West Indies in 2022 at Perth, Labuschagne (204) and Steve Smith (200*) scored double centuries in the first innings. This was one of the rare occasions of a pair scoring a double century each. Labuschagne continued his form and scored an unbeaten 104 in the second innings to join this elite record. Australia won this game by 164 runs.
9. Shubman Gill (269 and 161) vs ENG, Edgbaston in 2025
Shubman Gill has become a run machine for India across formats and has scored truckloads of runs. His best ever performance so far in the longest format of the game came in his second game as test captain. It was the game against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham in July 2025. Gill scored 269 in first innings of the test to register the highest test score by an Indian captain and then made 161 in the second innings to achieve this rare feat.
