Here we take a look at the batsmen who have scored most runs in successful run chases in ODI cricket.

ODI cricket comes with a different set of challenges for a player. One of the most difficult challenges in this format is chasing the runs scored by the team in first innings. In fact, chasing a target is always a big hurdle in any format of the game, but 50-overs cricket takes it to another level because here a batter needs to take time to stay on the crease and then change gears accordingly.

But then there are two different scenarios. One is scoring runs in the second innings and the other is scoring runs in successful run chases. This article will have a discussion on the top five run-scorers in successful run chases in ODI cricket.

5. Jacques Kallis (South Africa) :

Former South African superstar Jacques Kallis was one of the best all-rounders that played this game. He was one of the few players who won games with both bat and ball. Kallis was a big match-winner for South Africa, and that's what the stats also suggest. He played 100 innings in successful run chases and scored 3950 runs at 56.42 with a strike rate of 71.79. Kallis also scored three hundreds and 34 half-centuries in those chases.

4. Rohit Sharma (IND) :

Rohit Sharma is one of the best players in ODI cricket. He is the only player with three double centuries in this format. Rohit has been consistent since he became an opener. In successful run chases in ODIs, he has played 89 innings and scored 3983 runs at an average and strike rate of 63.22 and 88.88, respectively. Rohit has also scored 11 centuries and 26 half-centuries.

3. Ricky Ponting (AUS) :

The legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting was another successful run chaser of his time. He also had a superb international career, both as a captain and a player. Ponting featured in 104 successful run chases and scored 4186 runs at an average of 57.34 with a best of 124. He also scored eight hundred and 29 half-centuries in this period.

2. Sachin Tendulkar (IND) :

Sachin Tendulkar needs no introduction to the game of cricket. He achieved almost everything that a player can only dream about. With most runs, centuries, and half-centuries, Sachin is sitting at the top of almost every batting record in ODIs. He was part of 124 successful run chases and scored 5490 runs at an average of 55.45 and a strike rate of 90.08. Sachin had 14 hundreds and 31 half-centuries in those games.

1. Virat Kohli (IND) :

If anyone can match or surpass Sachin's batting record in ODIs, then it is Virat Kohli. The former Indian captain has probably been the best ODI batter of the current generation. With his 85-runs knock against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Chennai, he went past Sachin. Virat has so far scored 5517 runs in successful run chases in 92 innings at a remarkable average of 88.98 and a strike rate of 97.13, with 22 hundreds and 23 half-centuries.
