Shubman Gill won the Player of the Match award in Edgbaston test.
India test skipper Shubman Gill played a vital role in powering the team to victory during the recent second test against England. Gill (269) slammed a double century in the first innings, taking the scoreboard to a mammoth 587/10.
In the second innings, Shubman Gill arrived with another century (161) to shatter plenty of batting records. With his knock, India set a huge target of 608 runs for the hosts. Later, India bowled them out for 271 runs to win the clash by 336 runs.
The Indian skipper won the Player of the Match award for his incredible batting show in the encounter. Pacer Akash Deep was a stand-out performer with the ball, getting ten wickets across both innings of the match. India won the second test to level the five-match series 1-1.
Nothing has changed because of captaincy – India batting coach on Shubman Gill’s batting

India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak feels that captaincy has not made any changes to Gill’s batting. On the other hand, he revealed that the Indian skipper has made some technical changes in his batting. Earlier, Gill used to struggle with in-swingers.
“Nothing has changed because of captaincy. Mindset has been good – wants to spend time, he has the skill to put loose balls away. There have been technical changes which he has done”, he told reporters ahead of third test.
He also feels that the Edgbaston pitch was not a sub-continent type pitch. Instead, Indian batters and bowlers did a wonderful job during the match.
“India batters are very skilled, without doing anything extra they are scoring close to four. Our bowlers used well. The ball moved when our bowlers bowled. I dont think this was subcontinent type pitches”, he added.
Meanwhile, India and England are gearing up for the third test at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, which is scheduled to commence from July 10. England have added pacer Gus Atkinson to their squad for the third test. After the victory in the second test, Gill revealed that Jasprit Bumrah will be back in the playing XI at Lord’s.
