Sydney Sixers beat Adelaide Strikers to win their opening game of the BBL 2025-26.
On Wednesday, three-time winners Sydney Sixers and 2017-18 champions Adelaide Strikers faced off in match 4 of Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 15) at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
It was yet another nail-biter, which went down to the wire. Eventually, the Strikers were able to hold their nerves and recorded a 3-wicket win.
England’s Jamie Overton displayed an all-round performance to take his team over the line. Batting first, the Sixers put up a total of 159 in the first innings. Josh Philippe was the top scorer with his 46 off 28. Babar Azam failed in consecutive BBL innings and got out for 9 off 10.
Chasing the score, the Strikers also lost both openers within four overs. But Liam Scott played a great hand and scored 51 off 32 balls, with three fours and three sixes. Overton, who took 2/22 in his four overs, played a cameo of 30 off 20 balls. With this, the Strikers won their first game, and the Sixers suffered their second consecutive defeat.

It is just a start to the new season, and only four games have been played so far. Sydney Sixers are the only team with two games and have lost both matches.
Perth Scorchers are at the top with two points and an NRR of +1.235. Melbourne Renegades, Adelaide Strikers, and Hobart Hurricanes follow them with two points each.
The other four teams have no points on the board. The Melbourne Stars are the only team that has yet to play a match. So, they are placed in fifth place. With a defeat on Wednesday, the Sixers have slipped to 7th spot with an NRR of -0.616. With the worst NRR of -0.700, the Brisbane Heat are at the bottom.

Tim Seifert slammed a brilliant century in his first game. He is at the top of the run-scoring chart of the BBL 2025-26 with 102 runs. He is followed by the duo of Sydney Sixers, Jack Edwards (78 runs) and Josh Philippe (74 runs).
