Sydney Sixers beat Sydney Thunder to win their first game of the BBL 15.

Finally, after two poor performances, the three-time champions, Sydney Sixers, have won their first game of the Big Bash League 2025-26. They locked horns with the Sydney Thunder at Sydney Showground Stadium. The two teams came into this game without a win.

It started with the Thunder winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. The Sixers had a decent start with Daniel Hughes scoring 25 off 15 at the top. It was followed by a match-winning stand of 140 runs between Babar Azam (58 off 42) and Josh Philippe (96 off 57).

Babar scored his maiden BBL fifty, while Philippe missed a well-deserved century by just four runs. The Thunder pulled things back in the final overs and restricted the Sixers to 198 runs. Chasing the score, the Thunder lost their first three wickets in three overs.

They have not been able to recover at all since then. Sam Billings (51 off 28) and Shadab Khan (41 off 31) looked good for a while but couldn’t carry on for long. Eventually, the Thunder were bowled out for 151 runs, losing by 47 runs.
