BBL 2025-26 Prediction: Which team is favourite to lift the title?

The final of the BBL 2025-26 will take place on January 25.

The Big Bash League (BBL) season 2025-26 has seen some amazing cricket in the last two months or so. The eight teams fought it out in a tough league phase, with Sydney Thunder finishing with the wooden spoon, managing only two wins from 10 games and four points to their name.

Perth Scorchers topped the points table in the league stage, with seven wins from 10 games and 14 points to their name. Sydney Sixers finished second on the points table with six wins and 13 points from 10 games.

The third place in the BBL 15 league stage went to Hobart Hurricanes, who won six games and earned 13 points from 10 games, and Melbourne Stars finished in fourth place to qualify for the BBL 15 playoffs with 12 points from 10 games.

This means that Perth Scorchers will clash with Sydney Sixers in the Qualifier of the tournament in Perth on January 20. On the other hand, Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars will engage in the knockout on January 21 in Hobart.

The Winner of the Qualifier will go into the BBL 15 final, to be played on January 25, while the loser will face the winner of the Knockout in a Challenger match on January 23, for a chance in the final.

Who will win the BBL? Exploring the possibilities

All four teams have done well except the Perth Scorchers, who have been in a dominating form in the tournament. Sydney Sixers have also done well in the tournament, along with Melbourne Stars.

Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers seem to be the two most formidable teams in the race for the championship. The Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars are still capable of pulling off unexpected victories, but the finals pedigree, squad balance, and consistency may be the deciding factors.

The Perth Scorchers appear to be in the best position to win. They have once again demonstrated their supremacy in the competition by finishing the league stage at the top. What makes the Perth Scorchers the favorite is that they perform exceedingly well when the team is under pressure. This becomes ever more evident in knockout games, which is the reason why they have won the BBL more times than any other franchise.

Sydney Sixers are their biggest threat. Backed by Steve Smith’s brilliant batting and Mitchell Starc’s bowling heroics, the Sixers have mounted a great late-season comeback, as their core squad starred when things got hot. The Sixers’ biggest asset has been strategic discipline, especially in games that have gone down to the wire.

Hobart Hurricanes, despite being the reigning champions, have blown hot and cold in the BBL 15 season this year. Hurricanes have not been as consistent as they’d have liked with the bat, especially against good bowling attacks. The only thing that has taken them to the knockout game has been their bowling, which is still competitive.

The Melbourne Stars find themselves in the final four thanks to some luck and the fact that they have had moments of excellence. However, instead of being a team game, the Stars have been more reliant on their individual players’ brilliance.
